Steroid injections involve injecting an artificial form of a steroid. They are useful in some conditions and not in others, but they were all that was available until therapies like PRP injections and Viscosupplementation came along.

 

They have an anti-inflammatory effect and can help reduce a patients pain.

Steroid injections are generally used when pain or an injury is not getting better as expected or not responding to other treatments.
